Born to New Life in Christ
Through Baptism, we enter God’s family, receive His grace, and begin our journey as missionary disciples.
About Baptism
Baptism is the first of the Sacraments of Initiation. As water is poured and God’s name is invoked, sin is washed away, and we are reborn into new life with Christ.
The Avon Catholic Community joyfully welcomes infants, children, and adults into our family of faith.
Parents and godparents walk with the baptized: learning the faith, teaching by example, and praying as a family. Our parish prepares you fully through formation classes and a vibrant community that celebrates alongside you.

Infant Baptism
Baptisms for infants and young children are typically during Mass on Sundays.
Schedule a Baptism
If you are seeking the Sacrament of Baptism for your child, please call the Parish Office to make arrangements.
Baptismal Garment
The rite begins with your child already dressed in their baptismal garment, a white symbol of their new life in Christ. While a traditional white gown is beautiful, it is not required. What matters most is the radiant soul clothed in grace.
Choosing Godparents
Godparents are not honorary titles—they are spiritual companions. These individuals promise to pray, guide, and walk with your child on their lifelong journey of faith.
Godparent Requirements (per Canon Law):
Must not be the parent of the child being baptized or confirmed
Must have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist
Must be at least 16 years old
Must be a practicing Catholic, registered in a parish, and regularly attending Mass
If married, the marriage must be valid in the eyes of the Catholic Church
Must request and sign this certificate at least one month before the baptism

OCIC for Children Ages 7–18
When a child reaches age seven, they are capable of personal faith and require their own preparation. These young people enter the Order of Christian Initiation for Children (OCIC)—a journey that includes Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist, typically celebrated at the Easter Vigil.
Preparation Length: ~1 year, beginning any time;
Parental Role: Parents are essential! Bring your child to Sunday Mass, nurture faith at home, and support them during weekly catechesis.
OCIA for Unbaptized Adults
If you’re an adult seeking Baptism, welcome. Whether you’re exploring the Catholic faith or ready to begin a new chapter in Christ, we invite you to consider the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA).
Through prayer, community, and formation, you’ll walk toward a personal encounter with the living God. The OCIA process respects your story, honors your questions, and helps you discern next steps. There’s no pressure, just an invitation.
