Becoming Catholic FAQs
What if I feel interested in becoming Catholic?
If you’re feeling a pull toward the Catholic Church, the Church welcomes that desire through a beautiful process called the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA).
Through prayer, learning, and community, you’ll encounter the teachings of Jesus and begin to live them in the context of Catholic life, worship, and service.
What does initiation into the Catholic Church involve?
If you’ve never been baptized, OCIA prepares you to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist—what we call the “sacraments of initiation.”
If you’re already baptized in another Christian tradition, OCIA helps you enter full communion with the Catholic Church by receiving Confirmation and Eucharist. Every journey is unique, but each leads toward a deeper relationship with Christ and His Church.
I was only baptized Catholic as a child but never practiced. Is OCIA for me?
Yes. If you were baptized Catholic but haven’t received First Communion or Confirmation—or haven’t received formal formation in the faith—OCIA is the path for you.
If you’re already a fully initiated Catholic but looking to go deeper, we’d love to help you grow through OCIA or another suitable formation or small group program. Just reach out and we’ll guide you to the next step.
How long does it take to become Catholic?
OCIA is a journey, not a sprint. While every person’s path is different, most participants meet weekly for several months and attend part of Sunday Mass with the community.
Those ready for full initiation often receive the sacraments at the Easter Vigil, though initiation can also happen at other times of year depending on readiness. What if I’m unsure or change my mind?
That’s okay. Inquiry is just that—a time to ask, explore, and pray without pressure or obligation.
We deeply love our Catholic faith and hope you’ll come to love it too—but your journey is your own. Whether you continue or step away, we’re honored to walk with you for as long as you need. How do I start the journey?
We’d love to talk with you, hear your story, and answer any questions.
Whether you’re curious or committed, your next step is simple.
